About IRCA

The International Register of Civil Aircraft (IRCA) was created in 1961 as a result of a joint decision of the then UK Air Registration Board and now the UK CAA, RAI (now ENAC) and BUREAU VERITAS to gather in one common format national registers of various countries.

The aim of IRCA is to provide public and private aeronautical entities with an international database comprising of harmonized and substantial information on national aircraft fleets, in order to ease data access and exchange worldwide.

Because each national register has its own way to identify aircraft/engines manufacturers and types, IRCA has set up standardized naming convention for both aircraft and engines, allowing consistent searches across the different registers. The original register's data is also enhanced with the addition of generic technical information, this brings the number of search criteria up to 45, such us:

All the information you will find in IRCA is official, since it is directly provided by National Civil Aviation Authorities, assuring the complete veracity of the data.

The naming of aircraft and engines manufacturers and models have been standardised for better identification. The information from national registers has also been enhanced with generic technical information to allow a consistent method of database searching.

IRCA now gathers data of over 500,000 aircraft registered in over 40 countries, provided directly by the National Aviation Authorities themselves which are convinced of the benefit IRCA can bring to the aeronautical sector.

IRCA & ICAO Cooperation

ICAO has decided to support the IRCA initiative, as a truly world wide register would be of significant benefit in such areas as the collection, exchange and analysis of statistics and the management of aviation safety data.

This interest has been formalized in February 2001 by an exchange of letters between the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Register of Civil Aircraft (IRCA).
